The Director General of Tourism Infrastructure for the Canary Islands Government, Hector Suarez, has announced the investment of €1.3 million for the second phase of works on the seafront walk that connects Las Marañuelas beach in Arguineguín to Anf beach, in the south-western municiplaity of Mogán. This was announced during a meeting with the mayor of the municipality, Onalia Bueno, in which they analysed the status of the first phase of the work, which is now said to be in its final stretch.

Suarez explained that “once the actions of the first section are completed in the next few days, it is expected that by the middle of 2018, the execution of the second phase of the project to rehabilitate the existing 272 meters of maritime walkway will begin, between the beaches of La Lajilla and La Carrera”.

Suárez pointed out that the execution of the second phase “not only involves resurfacing the walk, but also the placement of a breakwater that will protect the promenade from storms”. Likewise, the project also contemplates the extension of the beach with a extra sand and the construction of a viewpoint.

He stressed the commitment of the Canary Islands’ Government “to undertake improvements to public spaces for the enjoyment of users who live in the Canary Islands and those who visit us with the aim of maintaining competitiveness of the tourism sector on the islands.”

The general director affirmed that this intervention “is a reality thanks to the recent release of the Coastal Agreement between the Government of the Canary Islands and the central government, a collaboration that will allow for the second phase of the rehabilitation project of the walk, blocked for more than Two decades”.

Mayor Bueno said she was satisfied with the progress of the works and explained that “the project second phase also includes street furniture along the avenue and a prefabricated toilet module in the beach area. Also, it will have different adapted accesses to allow its use by people with reduced mobility “.

Bueno said that “the goal is, throughout the next year, to be able to execute the second phase of the trip with financial contributions from the Government of the Canary Islands and the Government of Spain” and stressed that the “administrations have committed to working together to continue investing in the improvements to tourist infrastructure in Mogán “.
