Even holiday destinations as safe as Gran Canaria are occasionally targeted by criminals attempting to take advantage of our visiting tourists, but the police can also be very quick to react to calls for help.

Policia Nacional agents in the south Gran Canaria municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana have arrested two men aged 34 and 42 and a 41-year-old woman, all of them with previous police records, suspected of being the alleged perpetrators of a robbery with violence at a shopping centre in Playa del Inglés. The trio are thought to have beaten a British tourist, so as to steal a ‘bum bag’ containing money and personal effects. The physical description provided by the victim, helped the police officers to locate and detain the alleged perpetrators in the same vicinity as the theft.

The British tourist requested help from officers who patrol in the area, telling them how two men and a woman had approached him and after several blows to the face they stole his ‘fanny pack’ containing €100 and various personal effects.

The physical characteristics described by the victim led police officers in the vicinity to detain the two men and the woman, who were arrested as alleged perpetrators of the crime of robbery with violence. The personal effects were returned to their rightful owner.

The police intervention was carried out by agents of the Local Citizen Security Brigade of the Maspalomas National Police Station.
