And its October! Here on Gran Canaria we have enjoyed the first autumn heatwave this week, with hot sticky weather looking sure to continue through the weekend. There are lots of amazing events planned including patron saint festivities in Valsequillo & Castillo de Romeral, there are beer festival events in the capital and in the south, an apple and cider festival in the northern mountains, free music events and of course the Caminata Maspalomas walk, in solidarity with anyone fighting cancer.
AEMET, the Spanish State Meteorological Agency is predicting beautiful weather down in the south with highs of at least 30ºC+ in the shade, a bit less to the north and in the more mountainous regions with some possibility of cloud cover. All in all, still another hot and an amazing weekend coming up…

4-6 OCTOBER, VALSEQUILLO
FIESTAS SAN MIGUEL
The festivities in Valsequillo to honour their patron San Miguel, Saint Michael the Archangel are coming to and end this weekend. There are still many wonderful events to go and experience.
On Saturday, the humorously named “Cow’s Poop” Festival starts at 15:00. Young and old can enjoy music, dance and fun activities in the setting of a far far away Wild West scenario. Organised by Association La Caca de la Vaca VSK. Food and drinks available for the humble price of €1
4-6 OCTOBER, AGÜIMES FIESTAS DE NTRA. SRA. LA VIRGEN DEL ROSARIO
Agüimes celebrates the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary between 20 sep – 13 october. This coming weekend are the main days of the festivities. You can see the full program here ( in Spanish )
On Friday, several religious events throughout the afternoon and at 17:00 traditional games and children’s play at Plaza del Rosario.
20:30 regional folk dance festival at the auditorium ( Free entry )
on Saturday, between 10:00-13:00 workshops and bouncy castles, 11:00-13:00 a traditional stick fighting competition at Plaza del Rosario. And later the XXIV Romeria pilgrimage offering at 18:00 from the parking lot of the municipal swimming pool. Rope dancing at 23:00
Sunday is the main fiestas day. There will be a little Cattle fair at the back of the Auditoria teatro at 08:00. at 17:00 tasting of traditional sweets. 17:00-20:00 children’s play park. at 17:30 traditional games and the night continues with multiple of events.
4-6 OCTOBER, LAS PALMAS
OKTOBERFEST EN VEGUETA
Vegueta are celebrating their eighth Oktober Fest Beer Festival, centred around various establishments in the streets: Mendizabal, Pelota, Diego de Léon, Bishop Codina and Montesdeoca.
This event, organised by AVOR (Association of Leisure and Restoration of Vegueta), transforms the historic old town centre into a comfortable welcoming space where attendees can taste dishes, typical of German cuisine: sausages, potato salad, bretzels (a type of soft pretzel)… all washed down with copious amounts of good German beer.
OktoberFest starts with the opening of the first barrel on Friday, October 4 at 13:30 in the bar “Te lo dije Pérez“on Calle Obispo Codina, with the assistance of representatives from the German Consulate and the District Department; from that moment until Sunday, attendees will enjoy delicious dishes at long tables and benches as is celebrated in Munich at this time of year.
4-6 OCTOBER, VALLESECO Fiestas de La Encarnación and La Manzana
Valleseco, municipality of Gran Canaria famous for its apples and cider, celebrates the festival of La Encarnación and La Manzana, a celebration of the the municipality, its people and its customs. This is the main weekend for the festivities.
In 2011, this event was declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest by the Government of the Canary Islands, hence, a list of activities has been devised to promote this municipality of the island’s medians every year.
On Friday XXI folkloric meeting at the plaza municipal at 20:00
On Saturday, one of the most popular events of the Fiestas de La Encarnación and La Manzana, the traditional Pilgrimage-Offering starting at 18:30, which will once again gather a large number of residents and grancanarios around the twelve participating harvest carts.
Sunday, The day of Our Lady of the Incarnation. There is a craft fair and Cider market at 10:00 in the Plaza municipal. Enjoy the work of the artisans whilst tasting some local ciders and learning about all the apple varieties grown in the municipality. At 12:00 a religious ceremony and procession in honour of the Lady of the Incarnation. at 14:00 tastings of Asturian delights enlivened by live music. at 16:00 bouncy castles. at 17:00 children show at the plaza.
SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER, Playa del Inglés
OKTOBERFEST 2019 – HOTEL MARITIM PLAYA
Your last chance this Saturday to enjoy the closest thing we get to a proper Oktoberfest here on Gran Canaria. For the 9th year running, great fun is to be had over three Saturdays in Maritim Playa hotel in Playa del Inglés.
Some original Spatenbräu and Bavarian delicacies, some German singing and food.
The fun starts at 17:00.
SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER, MASPALOMAS CAMINATA MASPALOMAS CONTRA EL CANCER
The 6th Maspalomas Walk Against Cancer. Starting at the main Maspalomas South Park a walk to the Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse, dressed in pink an dpink ribbons. Get your official T-Shirt for €12,50 or two for €20 sold at the Galway Girl, Bazar Ani or on the day while stocks last.
Meet up before 17:00 in the Maspalomas park where you will find stands selling T-shirts. Departure at 17:30
Raising funds and awareness for the local breast cancer charitable association the ACCM Asociación Canaria de Cáncer de Mama y Ginecológico.
5-6 OCTOBER, San Bartolomé de Tirajana
FIESTAS PATRONALES CASTILLO DEL ROMERAL
Festivities in the coastal area of Castillo del Romeral in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in honour of San Miguel y la Virgen del Carmen de 2019 are coming to an end this weekend.
On Saturday, the main maritime procession in honour of Virgen del Carmen starting at 16:00 is followed by a popular barbecue. That evening party with music and and at 01:00 fireworks at the natural pools.
On Sunday, after the Verbena party the previous night, there will be the Diana floreada early in the morning. At 12:00 there is a mass and a religious procession. The festivities comes to an end with a final event performed by the orquestra Banda Larga at 16:00.

4-6 OCTOBER, Shopping center Yumbo in Playa del Ingles
Free Festival with free entertainment in the evenings at the main stage starting at 21:00 every night. Go along and support all the local bars of Yumbo.
SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER, LAS PALMAS “MUSICANDO” – CONCERT SERIES
The Musicando series offers free outdoor concerts open for all to enjoy. This Saturday Fabiola Trujillo in Parque Doramas ( José Antonio Ramos auditorium ) in Las Palmas. All concerts start at 21:00 and are free to enter until seats full.
