The operation, led by the Policía Local de Mogán, focuses on the municipality’s busiest coastal areas, including Amadores, Tauro, and El Perchel, where rising visitor numbers during the peak holiday period have prompted heightened concern over compliance with public space regulations.
The increased presence of local police officers, both uniformed and plainclothes, aims to promote responsible beach use and discourage behaviours that negatively impact the environment and the safety of beachgoers.
🚭 Tobacco and Drug Control
Among the key priorities is enforcement of tobacco regulations, especially in areas designated as smoke-free zones. In addition, officers are monitoring for drug consumption and dealing, responding to complaints from residents and visitors about the presence of illegal substances on or near public beaches.
Mogán’s municipal government has long emphasised the importance of clean and safe beaches as part of its tourism strategy. The latest move follows a broader pattern of enforcement initiatives seen in recent years, which aim to preserve the municipality’s reputation as one of the island’s premier holiday destinations.
⛺ Crackdown on Illegal Camping
Unauthorised overnight stays and camping setups, particularly during summer, have become increasingly common along the coast. These are strictly prohibited under municipal regulations due to concerns over safety, hygiene, and environmental degradation.
Officers have been seen dismantling makeshift campsites and issuing fines to individuals sleeping in tents or under temporary structures near the sand. In some cases, beachgoers have left behind waste and debris, prompting further clean-up operations by municipal workers.
♻️ Waste Disposal in Focus
The campaign also places strong emphasis on discouraging littering and promoting proper use of the recycling and waste disposal bins provided on all major beaches. Police patrols are reminding visitors of their responsibility to leave no trace behind, with penalties in place for those who are caught discarding waste improperly.
The initiative is being supported by increased signage and public awareness messaging, reminding residents and tourists of the rules and encouraging community cooperation.
🛟 A Message from the Town Hall
Mogán local government views this enforcement effort as part of a wider commitment to improving quality of life for residents and preserving the attractiveness of its coastal zones.
The Policía Local is expected to maintain this intensified presence throughout the remainder of the summer season, particularly during weekends and holiday periods when beaches are most crowded.
This move comes as Mogán continues to manage growing visitor numbers and balances tourism with local needs and environmental responsibility. With continued support from the community and cooperation from beachgoers, authorities hope to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming beach spaces for all.
