Can you believe it, September is here! What a summer its been, and as we roll towards the autumn there is a full weekend of activities ahead, with various events and fairs to go and see. Some of our favourite highlights include Wine and Tapas, mangoes and avocados in Mogán, the Patron Saint of Gran Canaria’s festivities get going in Teror, clowns in Valsequillo, and some seaside festivities in Melenara (Telde)and in Arinaga among many other events for this first weekend in September.


29 AUGUST – 1 SEPTEMBER, VALSEQUILLO
3 DIAS DE FARANDULA 

The 13th edition of  the international festival of clowns “Three days of Farandula” is happening in the picturesque mountain market town of Valsequillo this weekend . Clowns from around the world are taking over this village, famed for its flowers, strawberries and cheese, for the whole weekend, in a new edition of the Clown Festival held in this pretty rural municipality.


FRIDAY 30 AUGUST, AGÜIMES 
VARÁ DE PESCAO – ARINAGA 

As part of the festivities “of the Pine” in the south-east coastal neighbourhood of Arinaga, in the municipality of Aguimes. The most popular fiesta day is this Friday with La Vará del Pesca’o . Thousands of people partying into the night to celebrate the marine harvest of sardines among other local fish. A must-see event, especially for those who fancy a bit of authentic local celebration.

At 18:00 at the Avenida de los Pescadores “Vará de pescao”, followed by a procession marinera romeria pilgrimage procession at 19:00 which starts from Risco verde. Later at 21:00 the rhythmic music band leaves from Risco Verde. A lot of music is to follow and around 23:15, there is a massive fireworks show at the Arinaga port.


FRIDAY 30 AUGUST, MOGÁN
NOCHE DE VINOS Y TAPAS

A wonderful night to be enjoyed in Playa de Mogán with “Wine and Tapas” at Plaza de Gañanias from 21:00 to 01:00

The wine and tapas event will include 5 wineries from all over the island of Gran Canaria, along with the participation of various restaurants and bars from the area in support of the Mango Fair and the Summer Avocado fair happening on Sunday. Tastings based on these products and delicious local wines at affordable prices.


FRIDAY 30 AUGUST, MOGÁN
EVENTO SOLIDARIO – CHARITY EVENT

The Angry Birds Activity Park in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria is hosting a TUI Charity Event on Friday.

Starting at 16:00 an afternoon of live music, games, a workshop and a lots of prizes in a solidarity raffle (including a cruise for 2, a week long all inclusive hotel stay and much more ).

Proceeds are being divided up between the local charity “Down las Palmas”, the TUI Care Foundation and something for the people affected by the fires on Gran Canaria.

The park also offer resident prices on production of a verifiable residence document.

Teror is the place to visit this weekend with the start of the Patron Saint of Gran Canaria “Fiesta del Pino” festivities just.

Teror’s main town centre hosts a refreshing range of fun activities, on Saturday and Sunday, offering the public an opportunity to enjoy some of the most innovative and fun puppet shows, theatre, circus, music, humour and dance.

The “En Pie” (on foot) International Festival of Street Art is in its seventh year, with performances and concerts held in various areas around the historic town centre. Children, young and old will be able to enjoy magnificent street performances and shows from various places around Spain.

On Sunday, raising the flag with bells and animation of the Charanga de Teror, the Parranda de Teror and Papagüevos at 12:00 Plaza del Pino.  The International Street art festival ‘en pie’ continues at : at 13:00 ‘Improlocura’ a cargo de Agro the Clown (Italia), Plaza del Pino. at 14:00 a concert by ‘ Los 600’ at Plaza de Sintes. at 17:30 ‘La Circoneta’, porTotó el Payaso (GC). Paseo González Díaz. at 18:30 ‘Ricky el profesor de tenis’ at Plaza de Sintes. at 19:10 ‘Las expertas’, por Cía at Plaza de Sintes. at 20:10 ‘Servicio 24 horas’, Plaza de Sintes.

On Sunday a Cattle Fair at Finca de Osorio from 10:00-15:00.
The Cattle Fair of the Pine will have demonstrations of threshing, Roman plowing, planting, donkey rides, an exhibition of agricultural machinery, black canary pig, shepherd’s jump, shearing and milking. Traditional workshops for children. Samples of craftsmanship in the field of agriculture and livestock.

SATURDAY 31 AUGUST, LAS PALMAS 
CONCIERTO LA PUNTILLA VIVA

The fifth Multidisciplinary Arts Festival, part of “Festival Plus” 2019 – once more taking art and culture throughout the Canary archipelago.

To inaugurate this festival, which will roll around the islands throughout the month of September, there is an opening day also to enjoy, with the presentation of Festival food, raffles for hotel stays and great dinning, and good music from groups: Rupatrupa, HEY CHABÓN, Collective Guineo. Momi Maiga & #AdamaCissokho. At Plaza de La Puntilla between 18:00-01:00 

In addition, this event will feature a joint solidarity event with the Senegalese non-profit Empire Des Enfants.


31 AUG – 1 SEP, MASPALOMAS 
DOBLE TORNEO ITF BEACHTENNIS MASPALOMAS COSTA CANARIA

A sporting event in Playa del Inglés, a 2 day beach tennis tournament on Saturday and Sunday. This tournament also scores for the National Beach Tennis Circuit. ITF Men’s and Women’s Doubles both days as well as SUB 14 (13 years and under).


SATURDAY 31 AUG – SUNDAY 1 SEP, TELDE 
FIESTAS DE MELENARA

The festivities in the seaside neighbourhood of Melenara in the municipality of Telde are coming to and end this weekend.

On Saturday, it is expected that thousands of people will come to the coast to enjoy the great maritime pyrotechnic show. The fireworks will illuminate the sky over Melenara beach on Saturday 31, just before midnight, with the permission of AENA to ensure the safety of air traffic is obtained.

On Sunday, the Maritime-Terrestrial Procession will start at 18:00


SUNDAY 1 SEPTEMBER, MOGÁN
IV FERIA DEL MANGO Y AGUACATE DE VERANO

The 4th Mango and Summer avocado fair is happening on Sunday in Playa de Mogán.
Between 10:00-15:00 at Plaza de las Gañanias you can enjoy local mangoes and summer avocados as well as other amazing products grown in the municipality.

In addition, you can taste various elaborations based on mango and avocado, both in the form of desserts and tapas and drinks. Visitors will have the possibility to taste beer made with mango and, as a novelty, a mango wine.

The fair will also include twenty artisans from the municipality and around Gran Canaria, who will exhibit and sell their products to the public.


SUNDAY 1 SEPTEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
FLASH MOB KIZOMBA CANARIAS

the 7th Flash Mob Kizomba Canarias is taking place on Sunday at Las Canteras beach (toward the La Puntilla end). At 10.30 the dancers will meet to draw the dance perimeter and then they will have two passes. First one at  12.00, and then the second at 13.00 and party with music until 16.00. Definitely something fun to see on our main Capital City beach.

Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance and music originating from Angola. It is a derivative of semba, with a mix of Kilapanda and Angolan Merengue, and sung generally in Portuguese. It is music with a romantic flow. … The kizomba dancing style is also known to be very sensual.
