April, the month of Venus named after the Greek goddess Aphrodite, is coming to an end. Here on Gran Canaria the days are getting warmer and warmer, with bright blue skies and sunshine persisting all this weekend, particularly on the south of the island, and highs reaching to 26º & 27ºC in the shade by Sunday.  Summer Fiesta season is upon us.

Ahead of us we have patronal festivities, concerts, a beer festival, an electric vehicle show, a wedding fair, a sporting event, and a cheese fair and some more amazing concerts, all of them free, to enjoy.


26-28 April, Ayagaures, SBT Fiestas de Ayagaures

The pretty little village at the top of the Ayagaures ravine, a few km past the Aqualand water park, are celebrating their patronal festivities, dedicated to the worship of the Santo Niño Dio. Finding it once you are there should be no problem, just head towards the Iglesias de Ayagaures, the main village church.

On Friday, The Pregón, opening proclamation ceremony and from 22:00 Zanga (a popular traditional card game) tournament. On Saturday, the main Romeria popular, a pilgrimage offering starting from 18:00 followed at 22:00 by the Popular Verbena, an after party with music in the streets.

On Sunday from 10:30 demonstrations of the Salto de Pastores shepherd’s leap, at 11:00 a drawing competition. 13:00 mass and a religious procession. At 14:00 the popular asadero, a barbeque followed by bouncy castles at 15:00. The big raffle at 16:30 and at 17:00 chocolata to end the fiestas.


26-27 April, Las Palmas
III Feria de Boda

The 3rd edition of the Wedding fair on the first floor of the Shopping & Leisure centre CC 7 Palmas. Throughout Friday and Saturday you can find on display everything you could need to create The Perfect Wedding here on Gran Canaria, with the latest trends in decoration, flowers, balloons, catering, makeup, photography, enclosures, lighting and much more.

On Friday 12:00-21:00 and on Saturday 10:00-22:00


27-28 April, Infecar, Las Palmas Movelec

MOVELEC, the Canary Islands Electric Vehicle Show, promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, and organized by the Canary Islands Trade Show Institution (INFECAR)

Opening hours: On Saturday 10:30-20:00 and on Sunday 10:30-17:00. Entry Fee €2.00 

Electric vehicles, electric bicycles, electric motorcycles, industrial service vehicles, carsharing electric vehicle companies, renewable energy generating companies to feed the charging points and everything else to do with electric mobility vehicles.


Saturday, 27 April, Gáldar
Beer Festival

Starting From 12.00 until 22:00, in the Plaza de Santiago a pop up beer garden  where visitors can enjoy traditional beers on beer festival styled tables and benches, a few crafty beers, some good live music, including disco music from the 80s, and  taste some gastronomic delights too.

Beer will be the main star of the day, with Blues, Red beers, Specials, craft beers and white beers, pale ale, lager, stout, abbey etc, including Canarian, Belgian and German brews. There is also to be the official presentation of the new AGALDAR beer at 12:00, especially made exclusively for this Festival.


Saturday 27 April, Las Palmas Musicando

The Musicando series of free outdoor concerts are open for all to enjoy.

This season started in January in Parque Doramas in Las Palmas. All concerts start at 21:00 and are free to enter until seats full.

This Saturday, Zenet invites us to revisit the Latin American songbook and boleros, especially Cuban songs from their album “La Guapería” the beauty factory.

A chance to enjoy a marvellous interpretation of classic boleros.


Saturday 27 April, Las Palmas
Picnic Suite

Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will become a great musical picnic setup this Saturday, with prestigious German singer Andreas Prittwitz and the director Daniel Abad starring along with the Municipal Symphonic Band of the capital, in a new delivery of the Picnic Suite.

It is an initiative of the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria through the Department of Culture, which will combine, in an extraordinary show, some truly wonderful jazz and symphonic music played outdoors and free to attend.

While the public can lay their picnic baskets and tablecloths on the sand and enjoy the music of legends like Glenn Miller and Leonard Bernstein.

In front of the Hotel Cristina, from 21:00.


Saturday 27 April, Santa Maria de Guía Fiesta del Queso

Traditionally “The Cheese Festival of Santa María de Guía” is celebrated on the last Sunday of April but this year that date coincides with the Spanish General Elections. Traditional gastronomy and an artisanal fair, Canarian folk music groups, workshops, demonstrations and children’s workshops.

The Cheese Fest in the old part of Guía (just aim for Plaza Grande) on Saturday April 27, starting at 10:00. In the evening from 20:00 at Plaza Grande, there will be lovely traditional dancing.

The Festival of the Cheese of Guía every year has two editions. Traditionally, the first one is celebrated in the town on the last Sunday of April (except this year for the elections) and then the second takes place up in the district of Montaña Alta every first Sunday of May. This year it is on the 5th of May.


Saturday 27 April, Mogán
IV Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria

Triathlon competition in the sunny southern municipality of Mogán. The main location for the race is centred around Amadores beach, with the first starting time on Saturday morning at 08:00.

CHALLENGE CORTO “OLÍMPICO” : 1,9km – 40km – 10km / Individual
CHALLENGE MEDIUM DISTANCE : 1,9km – 90km – 21,1km / Individual
CHALLENGE RELEVOS : 1.9km – 90km – 21.1km / Relays

This sporting event will also means road closures between 06:00-14:00. The coastal road GC-500 will be closed to traffic between La Verga ravine – Anfi del Mar area, Punto Kilometric 30 + 700- and the Barranco Taurito, Punto Kilométrico 42 + 800. Access to the Amadores area will be through the interior of Puerto Rico using the Avenida de la Cornisa to Montaña Clara street down the street Minister Anna Lindh to the parking area that exists in the upper part of Amadores. Access to the Tauro area can only be made in cases of emergencies or in desperate need. Access to Taurito by the GC-500 will be closed.  GC-1 should be used as an alternative route.

Saturday 27 April, Mogán
Noche en Arguineguin

This Saturday in Plaza de Las Marañuelas,  the latest edition of ‘La Noche en Arguineguín’, “The night in Arguineguín” with traditional taifa dance where various folkloric associations from the municipality and around the island will perform.

The first chords will begin to sound from 21:00 in this event organised by the Los Pescadores Folkloric Group since 2010 with the collaboration of the Mogán City Council.

The night also includes an Artisanal fair from 18:00-22:00.


Sunday 28 April, Las Palmas Musica en el Parque

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria World Music Festival. Concerts in the Doramas Park, to celebrated one Sunday of every month at noon. A Festival for the family.

This Sunday, AYWA Music brings to the stage of “Music in the Park” the sounds of the Maghreb, with French influences.
