Carnival celebrations come to a head in the capital with its main weekend and the biggest parade on the island as well as the tear jerking and fun of the Burial of the Sardine on Europe’s best urban beach, Las Canteras. Carnival Las Palmas
21:00 Body makeup contest. One of the most attractive shows of the Carnival. Each display of body art covers the naked skin of contestants with a temporary creation, painted using only an airbrush or a simple brush, that lasts for several hours, time enough to be exhibited with a choreography, music and rhythm on the main stage. 22:00 Carnival Nights. Carnival Nights mean fun and everyone in costume. From 22:00 – 03:00. Free Concerts and Live Music next to plaza de Canarias, parque de Santa Catalina.
18:00 Carnaval de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – Grand Parade. The city comes to a standstill and surrenders to the power of the masses. Over 200,000 masked revellers and a hundred or so festooned cars and floats accompany the Carnival Queen, the Drag Queen, the Great Lady and the Junior Queen to the rhythms of the music of the butacadas, comparsas and murgas. It is one of the island’s most anticipated displays of public participation, freedom, fun and wild abandon. From La Isleta to León y Castillo

Sunday 9.3 at 19:00 Burial of the Sardine
The popular “Funeral of the Sardine” marks the end of this year’s festivities:
the sacred glittering fish, which stays in the custody of the Carnival Queen and Drag Queen in a sombre wake and procession to the Playa de Las Canteras beach, where the figure of the fish is burned in the water. And everyone bids farewell to a month of debauched celebration to mark the passing of winter.

The Neighbourhood Carnival celebrations in the municipality of Santa Lucia with this Friday night aimed at children in the Santa Lucia old town, up the mountain, on Plaza de Santa Lucia. Enjoy something a little bit different and more local Carnival festivities in the older parts of the municipio. Starting at 17:00 inflatables and workshops, more workshops at 18:30 as well as a children’s show, parade, the traditional burning of the Sardine and pyrotechnic spectacle. Ingenio celebrates its 51st Carnival festivities this year and this years theme is “oriental”
On Friday, Drag Queen Gala starting at 21:00 on Plaza de la Candelaria. The show will also feature the performances of the Comparsa Aragüimey “Última Llave” and at the end of the Gala, Concert by “Los Salvapantallas” Presented by TV personality : Roberto Herrera
On Sunday, it’s Children’s Carnival from 11:00-14:00 at Plaza de la Candelaria.
There will be “The adventures of Poli and Lopi” with Rafaeli-llo Clown. Bouncy castles, craft workshops and clowns. Little street parade with a float and a music group at 12:00. Performance of the municipal children’s murga “Los Lechoncitos”. At the end of the parade and until 14:00 ( but only for the kids), free hot dog and a soda.

VIII Encuentro de Agrupaciones Folklóricas
VIII Meeting of Folkloric Groups is happening on Friday in El Tablero, a neighbourhood just on the other side of GC-1.
Lovely Canarian folk music and dancing to be enjoyed in Plaza de El Tablero (just in front of the church) , starting at 20:00
Sunday 10 March, Mogán
Carrera Popular Arguineguin 2019
The Popular running race in Arguineguin will be held on Sunday and will have 5 and 10-kilometer urban circuits, children’s races and a charity walk. The race takes place one more year in the neighborhood of Arguineguín. The runners competing in the distance of 5 kilometers will make a single run round the circuit, while those who opt for the 10 will make the trip twice. The main races will have a starting time at 10:00 whilst the children’s races will be held from 9:30 until the start of the main categories, in addition to a solidarity walk at 11:30. Trophies at 12:30
Start and finish on Calle Miguel Marrero with Avenida de del Muelle.
Remember that when there is a urban race happening it will also mean some traffic restriction in the area.
All the proceeds of the charity walk will go to the ACCM (Asociacion Contra Cancer de Mama), the Breast Cancer Charity that our “The Long Walk Gran Canaria” supports every year with 3 days coast-to-coast walk.

8-10 March, Arguineguin : II Beach Volley Tournament International Master 2×2 Anfi del Mar
Beach volley to be enjoyed on the lovely Caribbean sand of Anfi beach. On Friday and Saturday Male and female categories with both 24 players as well as on Sunday’s mixed category.
