Legendary British Rockers Status Quo will be playing the Canary Islands and Gran Canaria Arena for the first time this weekend, it will be their first official gig on Gran Canaria this Saturday and after Tenerife this Friday, only their second ever show in The Canary Islands. This may well be a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal to one of the best time bands in British and 2oth century world music history.
Having achieved chart success with the psychedelic hit single Pictures of Matchstick Men in 1968, The Quo were to become living rock legends throughout the 70s filling stadiums and the most famous rock festivals including Isle of White, Glastonbury and Donnington, and many more besides, well in to the 80s and 90s. They play a genre that transcends time, termed BoogieRock on their wikipedia page, and their multiple hits have seen them Rocking All Over The World for the last 5 decades, and still going strong. Led by founding member and front man, the instantly recognizable Francis Rossi, Keyboardist Andrew Bown, accompanied by bassist John ‘Rhino’ Edwards, drummer Leon Cave, and rhythm guitarist Richie Malone replacing Rick Parritt who sadly passed away at the end of 2016 just after the recording his last work, Aquostic II: That’s a Fact !, an album recorded with Spanish guitars and following on from 2014.
Status Quo, which most of the public associate with commercial hits such as In The Army Now or Whatever You Want, have had a lot more complex and interesting story than just those well known best sellers, with several stylistic changes as they have evolved over time .
Well worth getting up to Las Palmas this Saturday night to see them, at last count there were still a few tickets available, but they are expected to sell out.
