A most traditional celebration this week on the island, where families gather and tell each other stories of the family members long departed, ancestors of note, parents, grand parents and the occasional spooky ghost story.  Of course American ideas have seeped in over recent years, but the more traditional Canarians will see this as a great opportunity to reconnect with the past and munch on freshly roasted sweet chestnuts as the community gather together to celebrate mid autumn.

Whether its Fiesta de Todos los Santos, Halloween, Noche de Finaos, All Saints eve, All Hallows’ Eve, Day of the dead, Allhalloween, or Fiesta de la Castaña there are plenty of festivities going on this Tuesday night on Gran Canaria. It’s a mix of traditions and commercial activities here and if its a night out, many bars and restaurants will do their best to entertain and to frighten so dressing up is ALWAYS encouraged!

Wednesday, 1st of November is also a National bank holiday so government buildings, offices and banks will be closed, including some of the Shopping centres and stores, like El Mirador, IKEA, Leroy Merlin, though some of them never truly close their doors, so good idea to double check.
