On the morning of Saturday, 20 September 2025, a car caught fire on Avenida Tomás Roca Bosch in the tourist resort town of Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria, in the municipality of Mogán. The blaze, which quickly drew attention from nearby pedestrians, residents and holidaymakers, forced the temporary closure of this busy avenue to traffic.

Emergency teams arrived promptly to control the situation and ensure the safety of the public. The vehicle’s owner was treated at the scene for mild symptoms, though no serious injuries were reported.

The fire caused notable disruption in one of the main commercial and tourist areas of Puerto Rico, where many hotels, shops, and restaurants are located. The temporary road closure led to delays for drivers and pedestrians in the zone.

While the cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed, the swift intervention of local services prevented further damage or injury. One theory is an electrical fire, we await further statements from official sources.

More than 1 million tourists visit Mogán, on Gran Canaria’s sunny south west coast, every year, with around 1/3 of them staying in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria.
