The Summer month of July on Gran Canaria is one of the most amazing for events and festivities happening around the island. There are multiple celebrations in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of Sailors and fishermen, including in Mogán, Telde & Las Palmas and elsewhere.

FIESTAS DEL BARRO,  1-6 JULY, SANTA BRIGIDA

The 28th edition of the Clay/mud Festival in the neighbourhood of La Atalaya (meaning Watchtower in English) and one of the most popular events the “Traida del barro” , literally ‘bringing of the mud’

The main day of festivities will be on Saturday 6 July:
From 11:00 the Insular Ceramic Market with the island artisans
at 14:00 music performances
14:30 Local lunch with the great paella
16:00 ascent of the mud with Isleña band.
17:30 Gran Embarrá con la Charanga La Aldea, literally a mud party and at 19:00 Shower and warm broth in the Annex Solar of the old health centre.
20:30 “Árbol del Fuego” lighting with music


LPA TEMUDAS, 4 JULY – 2 AUGUST, LAS PALMAS 

The 23nd edition of Temudas, the International theatre, music and dance festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
During the festival there are a wide range of extraordinary free outdoor performances and concerts.

A magnificent spectacle for people of all ages, a month of world class performance mainly in the outdoors and totally free to attend.


FIESTAS DEL CARMEN, 5 JULY – 28 JULY IN ARGUINEGUÍN & PLAYA DE MOGÁN

La Virgen del Carmen” is the patron saint of sailors, and her feast day is observed in the main Mogán fishing towns of Arguineguín and Puerto de Mogán.

Festivities in honour of ‘La Virgen del Carmen’, include a wide variety of religious, traditional and cultural events for everyone. The most popular events are “Romería” pilgrimage, the “Bajada de la Rama”, the lowering of the branch procession, a maritime procession and the terrestrial procession.

The main feast day is the 16th of July.


CANARIAS JAZZ & MÁS HEINEKEN, 5-21 JULY, LAS PALMAS

The Heineken International Canarias Jazz & más Festival is on until 21 July with around 50 concerts and gigs happening across the islands.

There are a huge range of free outdoor concerts with outstanding jazz musicians from across the world.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL  “TOTEM”,
6 JULY- 22 SEPTEMBER,  MELONERAS

The most famous circus in the world is in town, in Meloneras, just next to ExpoMeloneras from 5 July – 22 August 2019 with their show “TOTEM” :  Journey into the Evolution of Mankind

TOTEM follows the human species from our original amphibian state to our ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage, evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilisations. TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, our dreams and our infinite potential.

FIESTAS MAYORES DE SANTIAGO,  28 JUNE – 27 JULY, GÁLDAR 

Gáldar are celebrating their main fiesta for the town, in honour of their patron saint, the Fiesta de Santiago de los Caballeros, honouring St James of the Knights

As part of the festivities there is a popular Tradicional Romería Ofrenda al Señor Santiago de los Caballeros de Gáldar.

The procession with an offering to the Patron Saint in which the different districts of the municipality take part along with floats from other municipalities of the island, with the offerings of typical produce of Gran Canaria to Santiago Apóstol (Saint James the Apostle)

The former town of Agáldar, the seat of several social and political institutions, was the main settlement of the territory of the island before its annexation by the Crowns of Castile & Aragon, at the end of the 15th century. Because the leaders were recognised as Kings of the Canary Islands by the Catholic Monarchs, Agáldar was tacitly acknowledged as the Pre-Hispanic capital and as birthplace and the court of the governing dynasty of the island, who capitulated to the Spanish following the conversion of their King.

BIG BANG VINTAGE FESTIVAL,  11-20 JULY,  LAS PALMAS 

A nine day festival filled with music and culture of the 40s, 50s and 60s.
The Main weekend, between 12-14 July at Parque San Telmo there is Exhibitions, Cabaret Shows, Thematic Talks, Dance Workshops and 3 days of Concerts, Djs, Burlesque Shows, Theme Parties, Contests, Children’s Shows, Food Trucks and much more …

 

 

 


GRAN CANARIA WIND & WAVES FESTIVAL 
12-21 JULY, POZO IZQUIERDO

Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival 2019, The islands biggest windsurf competition and festival.
Windsurfing, children’s activities, fashion and live concerts at Pozo Izquierdo beach. The competition itself takes place pretty much every day

MASPALOMAS COSTA CANARIA SOUL FESTIVAL,
26-28 JULY, SAN AGUSTIN 

The 5th edition of the Soul Festival in Maspalomas on the beautiful beach of San Agustin. 2019 edition is dedicated none other than the ”Queen of Soul” herself, Aretha Franklin.
