Las Palmas looking for their first win of the season against Racing Club Santander. Last weekend they got a good draw away to Malaga, where they took the lead but couldn’t manage to hold on, game ending 1-1.
Before kick off, a good round of applause by the crowd as some of the local fireman come onto the pitch for the fans to show their appreciation for their tremendous work during the forest fires.
7mins – LP win their first corner. Ball comes out to the edge of the box but the shot is just wide.
18mins – first dangerous ball played over the top of the home defence and the quick right winger cuts inside and places his shot under the keeper. 0-1
24mins – some build up play by the home side but the shot from the edge of the box is straight at the keeper.
27mins – more good play by LP, good move down the right but the cross is cleared for a corner. 2 mins later a good run and attempt by Cedres but his powerful shot is just wide. LP are putting the pressure on now.
42 mins – great run by Lopez, beats 2 men and his cross is nearly put into his own goal by the Racing defender. From the corner another good save by the away keeper denies another good chance from a header from Aythami
In injury time, another corner for LP and again they go close.
HT – Las Palmas 0 Racing Santander 1
The score line is a bit harsh on the home side who have had the better of the first half and have created a few half chances. Apart from the goal, Racing haven’t offered much in attack and with a bit of luck, LP should be level. They just need a bit of composure in front of goal and they can get back into this match.
First 20mins of the 2nd half have been very scrappy, lots of petty fouls and over refereeing, keeps the game from flowing, which of course Racing want.
73mins – a good move down the left wing by LP, good cross but Castro he just can’t reach it, it looked like he was pulled back but nothing given.
75mins – and a poor tackle by Aythami which gives him his 2nd yellow – red card !!!
It will be an uphill struggle now for LP to even get a point.
79mins – a long ball into the box, and an LP player goes down under a challenge, ref gives a penalty !!! Castro puts its in the top right hand corner , 1-1… get in!! First home goal of the season.
84mins – Lemos goes close with a shot from the edge of box . Straight up the other end and Racing have 1/2 a chance. Game opening up now.
88mins – sub Drole picks the ball up in his own half, beats 2 and sets up Castro who chips it past the on rushing keeper into the net !! Wow – what a come back but now it’s 5mins of injury time.
94mins – LP break forward but instead of holding the ball in the corner , they lose it and Racing break forward and score in the last kick of the game 2-2.
Full Time –
Las Palmas 2 Racing Santander 2
The Saint Verdict – great finish to the match and a great come back from LP. But naivety cost then in the end as they should have kept the ball in the corner rather than going for a 3rd goal. They lost the ball with men committed upfront, Racing broke quickly and scored.
There wasn’t time to restart the match so in the end it was 2pts dropped rather than 1 gained. At least the young team are showing a fighting spirit and with the loan signing of Jonathan Viera in time for next weekend local derby at Tenerife , this should give the team a lift and look to get their first win of the season.
Next home game – Almeria 17.30 Saturday 14th September .
