|”The fire is neither contained nor stabilised nor controlled” explains the president of the Canary Islands Government
| 4,000 people have been evacuated from six different municipalities more than 15km2 affected
| Within the next few hours there will be four seaplanes operating to try and control a fire now expanding on three fronts

The president of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, has appeared before the media to take stock, report and explain everything that has been happening over the last few hours regarding the fire.

He explained that “the situation is tremendously complicated” particularly when comparing this latest fire, which originated near the town of Valleseco, with the fire just one week ago at the summit of Gran Canaria, he admitted that expectations for this one “being objective are worse.”

The heat wave through the Canary Islands, the dry weather and the force of the wind in the areas affected by the flames have hindered operations and it is expected that this will continue to happen.

4,000 people have now been evacuated  since Saturday afternoon with many being housed in makeshift shelters including 21 in Tunte, 299 in San Mateo, 103 people in Valleseco and, in Moya, 49.
