A level 1 fire has been declared at the summits of Gran Canaria – high temperatures in the area have led to distinct fears of the flames spreading. Firefighters are working to prevent it from spreading toward Cruz de Tejeda and Artenara, just two years after a devastating fire caused the evacuation of thousands from the area.
3 helicopters are on the scene, and fire fighters feel confident they can bring it under control but for now the island watches and waits.
Roads have been closed and members of the public asked to avoid the area. Meanwhile passing satellites have seen smoke from the fire from outer space…
