Gran Canaria and Ryanair have a new route that will connect the island and Sant’Angelo Treviso in northern Italy with one flight a week. Treviso is a strategic point for Gran Canaria, since it is located 40 kilometers from the city of Venice, in the Veneto region, one of the richest areas of Italy. This new route will allow Italian tourists of high purchasing power to fly to the island directly.
Gran Canaria is now connected to seven Italian cities: Milan, Bergamo, Verona, Bologna, Pisa, Rome and the latest addition, Sant’Angelo Treviso. The excellent geographical position of this airport will allow travellers from southern Austria and Slovenia to also fly to Gran Canaria, which will help further consolidate these emerging markets.
The Italian market grew on Gran Canaria by 19.2% in 2017 to a total of 110,000 tourists. These figures highlight Italy as one of our main emerging markets that have grown the most in recent seasons.
Ryanair has become the second most important air carrier on Gran Canaria after the multinational TUI and have established a new passenger record on Gran Canaria with more than 744,000 tourists carried in 2017, representing a growth of 14.7% in relation to the previous year.
Currently, Ryanair connects the island with 37 airports in 12 countries: Spain, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Holland, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, Sweden and Norway.
