The Canary Awards, simply put, is a chance to gather and celebrate some of the best of our community, and our island, those who really go the extra mile and help to show residents and visitors that this really is the best little corner of the world to holiday, live and work.
It’s a good old slap on the back for everyone working so very hard, particularly during these strange times, who smiles brightly and helps to make sure we keep moving forward as a community.
The Canary Awards results will be announced at the Winners’ Dinner on May 7th 2023, at our Sky Bar venue overlooking Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria
We run a secure system in the interests of accuracy. Thank you for voting for excellence on Gran Canaria and supporting all our winners on the shortlist.
❤ The Canary Awards
Every nominee is simply a sterling example of the kind of people most valued here, by visitors and residents on the island, and we want to show them all off.
Once the nominations are received The Canary Awards team reviews the whole list and after long deliberations select a shortlist of nominees to be put forward for the public vote.
Any person, group, business or organisation on the island can be put forward for a nomination, by anyone.
We aim to recognise hard work, commitment and dedication to our sunny little piece of sub-tropical paradise.
Everyone who is nominated is literally a winner, by definition, already having represented the island and its residents so well that they have earned the honour of being put forward for formal recognition
Who is it you think are a superstar? Who goes the extra mile? Who shows their passion? Who deserves recognition?
Anyone can nominate anyone on Gran Canaria, who do you think deserves recognition? You can nominate yourself! You can nominate more than once. Everyone who is nominated is clearly, already, utterly amazing and should feel very proud to know they have been put forward. The Canary Awards tries to select a broad range of nominees, to move forward to the shortlist, who will all be promoted across several channels to let the world know how brilliant they are. Every shortlisted nominee is already a winner in our eyes. The public will vote for special recognition for one in each category.
Every shortlisted nominee is really a true star on Gran Canaria. These are the people the event is really about. They will each be invited to join us as a winner at The Canary Awards dinner, and promoted for the public vote. It is, from here on in, just a bit of fun, though some may take it more seriously than others, this becomes is a simple game of numbers, of seeing who can let the most people know about their nomination for wonderfulness, and collect the most virtual love online over the public voting period. It is simply a chance to say “Look, somebody noticed we work hard and are passionate about Gran Canaria”
Once the public voting closes, and lots of positive promotion of the shortlist nominees, we gather together to celebrate each one and announce who they are and what they do, and which ones have this year been selected by the public for a special award. Everyone who attends, every nominee, really is a winner, and so we celebrate each other and our island home together.

The Canary Awards Dinner Show usually sells out quickly, offering a three course meal and night of celebration and entertainment
A spectacular event, for which everyone dresses up & gathers to celebrate each and every nominee together
The Canary Awards is run by a dedicated team of volunteers working on behalf of Asoc. The Long Walk La Gran Caminata, a charitable non-profit association dedicated to building community, rewarding positivity in supporting Women & Families, Fighters & Survivors on Gran Canaria through charitable donations, bursaries, various media projects and support activities, as well as promoting the English speaking community on Gran Canaria through direct action, mentorship and advocacy. All sponsorships and donations from this event are used to pay for venue and production costs, staffing and hospitality, marketing and administration and preparation for our main annual fundraising event The Long Walk, Gran Canaria (Est.2012)
All proceeds from this and our other fundraising activities are used to support the association in its work so that 100% of direct donations from the public can be directed to the various organisations we support.
This year we are also asking for direct donations to help #SaveTheFoodProject in Arguineguín which requires urgent help to pay rent and other costs while they organise new governmental grants and subsidies, following an unexpected failure last year.
