The Cabildo de Gran Canaria are to invest €600,000 in the rehabilitation and modernisation of tourist infrastructures in Mogán, after signing an agreement with the tourist municipality that includes the execution of five major projects in Playa de Mogán, Patalavaca, Puerto Rico and the Mirador de El Mulato, reports the Cabildo de Gran Canaria’s Minister of Tourism, Inés Jiménez.
The objective is to increase the quality of services that the island offers tourists through the renovation, expansion, improvement, modernisation, maintenance and conservation of existing infrastructures in public spaces and recreation areas, as well as access roads to beaches, urbanizations and natural spaces, Jiménez said after signing with the mayor of Mogán Municipal Council, Onalia Bueno.
The project will begin before the end of 2018 after being proposed by the town hall and approved by the experts on the Tourist Board based on their Gran Canaria 2020 Strategic Plan.
Commitment to tourism excellence
In Playa de Mogán, the last stretch of the Barranco de Mogán channel, connecting it to the sea, will be improved in through a project to clean the riverbed, rehabilite the walls and put in place a new foundation, for which €180,198 will be invested.
Also in Playa de Mogán, an urban waste classification site will be created with a budget of €123,543. The town council considers this a priority action for the municipality, as it is a black mark on the image of this busy tourist area.
In Playa de Patalavaca, two sections of the stairs that connect Avenida de Los Guaires with Avenida de los Canarios with access to the beach will be redone, with budget of €200,500 to improve accessibility for visitors.
The last two projects, away from the coast aim to renovate two spaces as part of the Cabildo’s investment in promoting and improving natural spaces of the interior of the island. Work will be done to renew the landscape and astronomy-viewpoint at El Mulato with an investment of €83,139 making it possible to take advantage of an already existing natural setting that will now be equipped with various instruments for sta gazers, which will offer added value for visitors and help promote astro tourism.
The Zona Verde on Avenida de La Cornisa, in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria, will see a place of rest created for pedestrians and promote a new point of tourist interest to take advantage of the excellent views over the famous tourist beach and the urban core of Puerto Rico, with an investment of €50,932.
