2019 Netflix series ‘The Witcher’ shot on location on Gran Canaria

The filming of the international Netflix series ‘The Witcher’, which will debut in 2019, has taken place on Gran Canaria. For nine days the production shot at emblematic spots around the island including Maspalomas, Roque Nublo, Cuevas Blancas, Tamadaba and Agaete.

Starring the Henry Cavill the series is based on a series of fantastic novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and this first season will feature eight episodes in which the island will feature heavily.

Producer Simon Emmanuel previously visited Gran Canaria to film part of the feature film ‘Fast & Furious 6′, and has returned to continue the relationship with the island due to the enormous possibilities offered by its landscapes along with the facilities for location shoots on the island.

The filming of this series joins a Scandinavian television series that begins shooting this week, and another series of Finnish-German co-production that is in the very advanced preproduction phase and will be shot in April.

In ‘The Witcher’, Cavill plays the sorcerer Geralt de Rivia, “a genetically modified monster hunter who seeks his place in a world where humans often prove to be worse than beasts,” according to the Netflix synopsis.

The cast of this first season include Freya Allen, Anya Cholatra, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, Lars Mikkelsen, Royce Pierreson, Maciej Musial, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte and Anna Shaffer.
