The Carnival season on Gran Canaria is about to start in just one week so this upcoming weekend is a perfect opportunity to get ready, get some rest and enjoy some lovely events and activities happening around the island. The weather forecast is looking mighty fine, blue skies and sunshine with average temperatures of 18-21 in the shade daytime, much warmer in direct sunlight, so all options are open for a thrill filled weekend or just a couple of lazy beach days. Friday 8 February, Las Palmas II PaperPop –  Tina Turner tribute

The Paper Club celebrates the 2nd “PaperPop” on Friday starting at 23:00, where the golden age of pop-rock is to honoured.  “Tina on Tour”, an outstanding tribute to Tina Turner that will delight lovers of the Queen of Rock. A magical night seasoned with house dj’s that will be firing out the best hits of the 80s and 90s. Online tickets can be purchased at tickety.es at the price of €8  (includes a small beer) or also at the box office for €12 euros inc a small beer.

American Anna Mae Bullock, better known as Tina Turner, had a musical career of more than half a century and retired from the stage at almost 74 years old, being known for her energetic live performances and powerful voice. In that time she composed and he interpreted great successes like: We Deon’t Need Another Hero, Simply The Best, What’s Love Got to Do with It & Let’s Stay Together, among many others.


Friday 8 February, San Bartolome de Tirajana Classical Concert – Flupiace y ClaJaz

A lovely free classical concert to be enjoyed on Friday, starting 20:00 in the Island Tourism Center of Playa del Inglés, just next to the Shopping Centre Yumbo.  A classic concert from “Flupiace and Clajaz”. Paqui Santana (flute), Antonio León (violoncello), Silvia M. Castellano (piano), Carmine Calabrese (piano) and Manuel Salonia (percussion) will be the stars of the evening, which will offer free admission until seats are full.  So, if you are interested be there early enough.


Friday 8 – Saturday 9 February, Playa de Mogán Rockin’ Robin and Johnny Amobi, The Boulevard

Saturday 9 February, Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria

Saturday 9 February, Artenara MERCADO AGRÍCOLA Y GANADERO

The highest altitude mountain village on the island, Artenara, have their agricultural and farmers market on Saturday from 11:00-15:00 at the picturesque little Plaza de San Matias. This gorgeous mountainside market will be enlivened with traditional folk music groups singing and dancing.    


Saturday 9 February, Las Palmas #Musicando

Musicando is a free outdoor concerts for all to enjoy. All concerts takes place in Parque Doramas in Las Palmas and all concerts starts at 21:00 and are with free entry until seats full. Saturday 9 February, Las Palmas Presentation of  Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival

The Las Palmas Carnival of ‘Una noche en Río’ (One night in Rio) is presented at Plaza de Santa Ana on Saturday, starting at 20:00. The show will include the presentation of the candidates for the Carnival Queen, Drag Queen, Child Queen or King Infant King and Grand Dama. The Mayoro the capital, Augusto Hidalgo, and the Councilor of Carnival, Inmaculada Medina, will receive them in a night when they will draw their order of participation in the galas, it will be broadcast by RadioTelevisión Canaria – RTVC.es. Vocal group Swing , comparsa Aragüimé, the former contestant of La Voz Kids Leire Suárez, the group Última Llave and Javy Martín will also perform with rhythm and music: and parade of the candidacies. If you are a Carnival fan, this is a perfect opportunity to go and get in the Carnival mood in a very special place in the heart of Vegueta

Sunday 10 February, Agaete Mercado Artesanal

The Artisan Market organised by the City of Agaete, through the Department of Crafts,  in the coastal neighbourhood of Puerto de Las Nieves is from 11:00 to 16:00. An opportunity also to enjoy some music at the same time this weekend with the performance of the group La Quinta Marcha. The Artisan Market, takes place in the municipality on the second Sunday of each month.
