Mid November and unfortunately the weather this weekend is not looking too promising but then it’s never long before the sun shines on Gran Canaria… So its good to be aware that, in case of any adverse weather conditions, several events might be cancelled or postponed as a few have already been, though in all likelihood unless there is a major weather warning most happenings will indeed go ahead and happen as planned…  here are some of our highlighted events good for people of all ages and all free to attend…


FRIDAY 16 NOVEMBER, PLAYA DEL INGLÉS
SABORES DEL MUNDO

Flavours of the World – this popular gastronomic event is Friday in Parque Europea (in the vicinity of the famous “Irish” Centro Comercial Águila Roja) starting at 19:00 until midnight.  Lots of amazing food from around the world, wines, drinks and live concerts to enliven the evening in the heart of Playa del Inglés.

Twenty six gastronomic stands offering various cuisines from around the world together with wines and beers, all at humble good prices of €1 for beer or wine and €2 per tapa as well as the special ‘Maspalomas Sunrise’ cocktail. Music and ambience provided by groups ‘Los Salvapantallas’ and ‘Overbooking’.


15-18 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
WOMAD

WOMAD – World of Music, Arts & Dance in Santa Catalina park, Las Palmas.
A project originally conceived by Peter Gabriel, the first WOMAD was held in the fields of Shepton Mallet in England, 1982. Since then, WOMAD has celebrated festivals in over 30 countries, allowing a collective audience that counts millions who have enjoyed the  eclectic experience.

16-18 NOVEMBER, INFECAR, LAS PALMAS 
FESTIVAL DE MANGA DE LAS PALMAS – COMIC – CAN 2018 

The Las Palmas Manga Festival – Comic-Can this weekend in Infecar.  Enjoy a large pavilion of two floors, where you will find a wide range of leisure focused on anime, manga and Japanese pop culture. Also competitions, tournaments, stands, workshops, karaoke and cosplay.

In addition, this year, once again joining Comic-Can there is a new pavilion, where lovers of the world of comics can find sought after signatures, exhibitions, talks, screenings and many more surprises.

Opening hours :  On Friday from 10:00-21:00 on Saturday 10:00-21:30 and on Sunday 10:00-18:00. Entry fee : €6

On-going festivities in San Gregorio, Telde  in honour of San Gregorio Taumaturgo (Saint Gregory the Miracle-Worker c. 213 – 270, also known as Gregory of Neocaesarea, was a Christian bishop of the 3rd century. Canonized as a saint in both the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches).

16-17 NOVEMBER, SANTA LUCIA 
MUSEO LA ZAFRA X ANIVERSARIO


El Museo de la Zafra (the harvest museum) celebrates its tenth anniversary.

Over these last ten years this unique facility has received more than 90,000 visitors. The Museum is open from 09:30 – 14:30 on both days.

As part of the celebrations there are open days with free entry for Canarian residents until Saturday.

On Friday at 20:00,theatre group Ansite perform “Matildita goes to the harvest”.
On Saturday morning the activity will be “Brush Strokes in the Museum” with the participation of students from the artistic schools of Santa Lucia, Luján Pérez School, the Pocket Map Project, the Popular University of Agüimes and Plastic Arts students of the Musical Society of  Ingenio villa.

The Zafra Museum is located on Calle Isla de la Graciosa 33.  The celebrations of this tenth anniversary ends on Saturday at 21:00 with the Night of wines and Enyesques ( tapas route )*** which has been postponed in expectation of adverse weather***

The Museum of La Zafra “was established to remember the history of Santa Lucia, the people who worked in the southeast in agriculture and livestock in the midst of many needs.”


San Fernando second hand marketSUNDAY 18 NOVEMBER, SAN FERNANDO
RASTRO & MERCADILLO AGRICOLA

The second hand “Rastro” market every Sunday where everyone is welcome, and every type of thing is on sale, from objet d’art to furniture, to clothing, to stereos, telescopes & cellos, militaria, precious stones, previously loved items including toys and books and hats and the occasional kitchen sink. All the best stuff is snapped up early, but there is always a bargain to be made of had.

The second hand flea market takes place in the surroundings of the southern town hall .

This Sunday, like every second sunday there is a farmers market too.
