It’s the first weekend of October and the weather forecasts promise warm days ahead but the beginning of next week could be a little more unstable weather wise, so enjoy the weekend! Many amazing events happening around the island to go and see including Musik, Oktoberfest, Crab fest, the Honey fair and many others. Here are our top picks for this weekend !

FRIDAY 5 OCTOBER, LAS PALMAS 
LOS40

A new edition of the music event “Los40” in the capital of Gran Canaria.

On Friday from 20:00 a free music festival in the Santa Catalina park. Some of the biggest names in the Spanish pop music scene, as well as some internationals like Xantos, Kayl, Josh Acosta, Mark Dayle, Eva Ruiz, Dani Fernandez, David Lafuente, Juacko, Ray Castellano, Dani Moreno (El Gallo) and Óscar Martínez.


5-7 OCTOBER, LAS PALMAS 
OKTOBERFEST, VEGUETA

The old town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is in festive mood with Oktoberfest activities being held over the weekend.

Also in  the Vegueta area, On Sunday, a traditional and religious feast with the procession of Our Lady of the Rosary departing from the church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán at 19:30.  Think traditional costumes and street processions…


6-7 OCTOBER, COAST of ARUCAS
CANGREJOFEST 2018 

Crabfest is happening in Arucas this Saturday and Sunday. A festival with music, workshops and shows to enjoy with family and friends.

During the days there will be plenty of aquatic inflatables with slides and pools, castles, grand prix, workshops for smoothies and fruit and chocolate lollipops, children’s make-up and so much more.

On Saturday afternoon on a stage mounted on beach sand, there will be concerts by The Regueton Band, Aseres, The Queen Rhapsody, Rainbow Gospel Choir and Los Salvapantillas.

On Sunday the CangrejoFest 2018 will close with the ‘Muntu, the dance of the gods’ show and music with DJ Abián Reyes.

On Saturday activities and workshops between  11:00-14:00 at Avenida los Charcones and concerts starting at 17:00 on stage at El Puertillo beach.
On Sunday 11:00-13:00 workshops and a street spectacle at Avenida Los Charcones “the dance of the gods” and at 14:00 a show of DJ Álban Reyes on the stage.


SATURDAY 6 OCTOBER, GÁLDAR
OKTOBERFEST & GRAN FIESTA DE BLANCO

A Triple whammy of festivities in Gáldar this Saturday. Good music, craftsmanship and trade, the celebration of the traditional beer festival and the whole audience dressed in white. These are the ingredients for Saturday in the Plaza de Santiago and the surrounding area to offer the best environment to celebrate the Day of the Tourism with many activities and proposals for all and with the Antonio Padrón and Cueva Pintada museums open throughout the day free of charge.

Oktoberfest at Plaza de Santiago from 12:00-00:00 and the Grand white party starting at 13:00. Music starts at 14:00 to late in the evening. The handicraft and trade fair with about fifty stands in the vicinity of the Plaza, starting at 10:00.


SATURDAY 7 OCTOBER, VALSEQUILLO
IV BLACK CANARY BEE AND HONEY FAIR

There is a buzz in Valsequillo as the 4th edition of the Honey Fair comes with a greater variety of produce and activities of all kinds to make known one of its most peculiar products.

In the old Municipal Market, in the heart of the beautiful mountain town of Valsequillo,  from early in the morning a varied market of produce in which honey will be the protagonist, but not the only option: mead, propolis, jelly, pollen or sweets made with honey from the area can be tasted and purchased throughout the day.

Exhibitions, sale of apicultural materials and equipment, vegetables and local products, tastings of different types of Valsequillo honey and even natural cosmetics made from honey will all be on offer as well as IV Dessert Contest and show cooking.

Gran Canaria produces about 65,000 kg of honey per year, around 320 beekeepers currently are registered tending to  11,000 beehives. In Valsequillo, almost a hundred beekeepers currently work and there are about one thousand beehives.

From 1700 the Parque Sur Maspalomas will turn pink with hundreds of people taking part in the solidarity walk. The 5th Maspalomas Walk Against Cancer starting at the main Maspalomas Park a walk to the Faro de Maspalomas.

6-7 OCTOBER, VALLESECO
FESTIVITIES IN HONOUR OF OUR LADY OF THE INCARNATION
AND THE APPLE FESTIVAL

The first Sunday of October, this year on October 7 ,  a great celebration takes place in the municipality of Valleseco in honor of Our Lady of the Incarnation.

It is also the Apple Festival to which the neighbours come on pilgrimage with their carts from all the neighborhoods dressed in their typical costumes to offer the Virgin the produce of the land on the eve of the main day.

In 2011 this festival was declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest by the Government of the Canary Islands.

On Saturday, the main romeria, a pilgrimage offering starting at 18:30 and the festivities continues at Plaza municipal at 22:30 and firework show at midnight

On Sunday, at the Plaza de San Vicente Ferrer, the Craft Fair and the Cider Market, start at 10:00.

A day dedicated to a products characteristic of this northern inland town, apples and cider tasting, exhibitions of different apple varieties.

The sixth edition of the contest for the largest apple batch at 11:00. There is a religious function and procession at 12:00.  Finally, at 14:00 tasting of Asturian products: 100 kilos of fabes, 50 kg of bacon, 25 kg of black pudding,  chorizo and chorizo a la cider that make up the main set of the tasting that will be accompanied by delicious desserts made of apples.

To close the day the music shows of La Parranda de Teror and Manolo Viera are scheduled.
