Exclusive: Global super star Ricky Martin will perform on August 25 in Maspalomas

Ricky Martin has announced his return to Spain with a tour starting on August 14 in Tarragona, and in a total of ten cities during the month of August and early September.

The international heart throb Puerto Rican is due to appear once and only once in the Canary Islands during his new tour, with his concert scheduled for Gran Canaria next August 25, where he will appear at none other than the Maspalomas Costa Canaria San Fernando Municipal Stadium, in Gran Canaria’s touristed southern heartland.

This unique event promises a frenetic spectacle and a journey through Mr Martins wide ranging musical back catalogue made up of various emotional and rhythmic styles, through a repertoire that includes everything from dance to rock, ballads and tribal rhythms.

Set to perform hits from his latest album, Fiebre (Fever), complemented by a comprehensive review of his many other chart toppers, Martin promises to deliver live renditions of all his best known music, the likes of which have made him an enduring star over the last 25 years or so, with well know songs including Maluma, La mordidita, Come With Me, Disparo al corazón, Tal vez, Livin’ la vida loca, La copa de la vida, Pégate, Adiós, La bomba o Asignatura pendiente, among others.

Tickets can be purchased from 9.00 on Thursday, June 14, through the website www.easytickets.com , at prices ranging from €50 to €250, distribution costs not included.

Martin was born on December 24, 1971, in San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in a Roman Catholic home. He was an altar boy throughout his childhood. He began singing at age 6, using wooden kitchen spoons as pretend microphones; he often interpreted songs by famous latino boy band Menudo (which he later joined) as well as English-language rock groups such as Led Zeppelin. His mother’s side of the family were musically inclined, and his maternal grandfather was a poet, which inspired the young Martin to write songs. He  later reflected on his time spent with his family as a child: “Every time I find myself in front of an audience, be it twenty people or one hundred thousand, once again I feel the energy that consumed me back at the family gatherings of my youth.”

After discovering, with his father, a newspaper advertisement about auditions for commercial, 9-year-old Martin began appearing in Puerto Rican television commercials for products such as soft drinks, toothpaste, and fast-food restaurants. Within a year and a half, he had starred in 11 commercials.

His modest fame in his home country gave him a shot with boy band Menudo which turned him into a young sex symbol in the Americas, soon becoming a global star in his own right.  For many he is a unique cross over success appealing to a very wide range of audiences. On top of all that, he’s a really lovely fella who does a lot of work for charity.

Martin is the founder of Fundación Ricky Martin (Ricky Martin Foundation), a non-profit organisation, he has been honoured with accolades including: Leadership in the Arts Award, Billboard’s Spirit of Hope Award, ALMA Award, Vanguard Award, International Humanitarian Award by the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children, Hispanic Heritage Award for his humanitarian work through the Sabera Foundation in rescuing three orphan girls from the streets of Kolkata (September 2002).

Martin has also collaborated with the International Organisation for Migration on the Llama y Vive (Call and Live), a campaign which is aimed to facilitate prevention of human trafficking, protection of the youngest victims of child trafficking, and prosecution of the traffickers. For his work against human trafficking, the United States Department of State named Martin one of its Heroes in Ending Modern-Day Slavery in 2005.

The Ricky Martin Foundation was founded by Ricky Martin, with the mission to advocate for the well-being of children around the world.

Ricky Martin returns to Gran Canaria in 2018, after a two year absence, having completed his resoundingly successful residency All In, at the Park Theater, Las Vegas. Promising vibrant choreography and extraordinary lighting displays, designed with more than 150 moving lights and high definition video screens the show will feature a modern scenography that synchronises the visual and musical realms, to combine with changes to the artist’s wardrobe putting on full display Martin’s distinct energy, sure to captivate any audience from the first note of his show.

In addition to Gran Canaria, nine other Spanish cities will have the opportunity to host this summer the best Ricky Martin live show: Tarragona, Fuengirola, Santiago de Compostela, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Benidorm, Almería, San Sebastián, Cádiz and Córdoba.

Other concerts in Spain are on August 14 at Tarraco Arena Plaza de Tarragona, on the 16th at Marenostrum Music Castle Park in Fuengirola, on the 18th at Mount Do Gozo in Santiago de Compostela, on August 20 at the Porta Ferrada Festival in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, on the 22nd at the Guillermo Amor Stadium in Benidorm, on the 23rd at the Almería Fairground, on the 29th at Donostia Arena (Illunbe) of San Sebastián, on the 31st at the Esplanade of the Port of Cádiz and on September 1 at the ‘El Arenal’ Exhibition Center in Córdoba.
