A sunny weekend ahead and the almond blossoms are just starting to appear on the mountain with the very first one to bloom in Tenteniguada, just above Valsequillo, but more of that next weekend.  This weekend Firgas hosts a weddings fair,  Santa Lucia hold their main big farmers market at the Vecindario Karpa, and the capital Las Palmas will see road closures throughout the city for the 9th Gran Canaria Marathon.  An important match for Las Palmas football team who really need to win some games in Spain’s top division or face relegation.  And Rock Music fills the Alfredo Kraus auditorium with the arrival of two american drummers…

Gran Canaria Stadium

On Saturday in the Gran Canaria Stadium, January 20, UD Las Palmas starts the second round of LaLiga against Valencia CF. Friday is the last day you can buy tickets for the game.  Las Palmas have had a bit of a bad run this year, but are looking to turn their fortunes around after a hammering last week against Gerona.  A perfect opportunity for  any football fans hungry for some live premiership action up in the capital with crowds regularly topping 20,000 fans well worth a day out, to help cheer the island’s favourite team to victory.

Alfredo Kraus, Las Palmas

Rock music takes over the island’s main concert hall, the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, with the arrival of the Eat to the beat festival which started last weekend. Three concerts with top-level artists, attendees combine music with gastronomy on one ticket for €15  per concert, including two small dishes “montaditos”  to be enjoyed before the concert.

This weekend, legendary US drummers Carmine and Vinnie Appice finish their European tour at the ALfredo Kraus Auditorium. The brothers present their debut, Sinister, and play classics from bands they have participated in such as Dio, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osburne, Cactus and Rod Stewart. This concert is a must for all lovers of hard rock sounds.

Saturday 20 January, Santa Lucia de Tirajana 

Mercado Agrícola y Ganadero

The big farmers market in Santa Lucia is on Saturday, like every second weekend, at la Karpa from 09:00 to 14:00. Get the freshest products straight from the producers.  Vegetables, fruit, honey, cheeses, oil, bread and sweets are some of the products that can be purchased at this market, formed to support the primary sector of the region.


Sunday 21 January

North to south motorcycle ride

Like British brand motorcycles?  Triumph Canarias – Gran Canarias are leading a route that crosses the island from North to South to see the winter landscapes by bike.

Lunch will be organised for those who decide to accompany them.

They will meet at the CEPSA petrol station on Avda. Pintor Felo Monzón Nº48 (7 Palmas, next to El Corte Inglés) at 10:00 in the morning to leave at 10:30.

Remember that this same Sunday the Gran Canaria Marathon is celebrated, which will affect the transit through the city.
