The second weekend of December normal Winter weather for this time of year predicted, temperatures averaging just above 20ºC in the shade . Perfect for some seasonal shopping, markets and events. It’s also a double whammy for National Holidays this week with Wednesday and Friday being full bank holidays, it’s going  to be a long ‘bridge’ weekend holiday for many.

CHRISTMAS MARKET MASPALOMAS COSTA CANARIA 2017

From Thursday to Saturday 18:00-00:00 and on Sunday 12:00-19:00

A christmas market in the beautiful setting of the Urban South Park, organised by the Town Hall of San Bartolome de Tirajana. Visitors can enjoy invigorating Christmas activities such as: The Coca Cola Christmas House; Holiday World play area with inflatable castles; Workshops with Mama Noel: Christmas decorating crafts, storytelling, letter writing to Papa Nöel, face painting; a Healthy Christmas Zone with San Roque Hospitals; a Gastro Zone; Shopping area; Concert Area.

The main objective of this event is the collection of non-perishable foods and toys for families and minors in disadvantaged situations throughout the Municipality. All that is collected during the event will be given to various help organisations (Red Cross, Cáritas and Elomar) and non profit associations.

7-10 December, Hotel Maritim Playa, Playa del Ingles 

Mercado de Navidad – Hotel Maritim Playa

The Maritim Playa Hotel is celebrating their traditional Christmas Craft Market for another consecutive year. The German/Spanish style Christmas market in the heart of Playa del Inglés during weekends until December 18.  This weekend market is already open from Thursday due to the feast of the Immaculate Conception ( 8/11) .

7-10 December, Santa Lucia de Tirajana 

Las fiestas en honor a la patrona Santa Lucía

The festivities in honor of the municipal capital´s patron, Saint Lucia, begin officially on Thursday, the 7th, with the proclamation in the parish church, at 19:00. ( The festivities continue  until the 17th with the pilgrimage offering “Romería de Los Labradores” and include Wednesday 13 Dec as a local holiday in the municipality. )

On Friday, from 11.00, a Children’s Day continues at 16:30, with the discovery of the monument on the stairs of the City Hall ‘A Heart for Hope’ in homage to Gabriel Alemán Toledo, a Disney musical and a ‘scala in hi-fi’ singalong.

On Saturday, the 42nd Folklorist meeting of the Caldera de Tirajana, starting at 19:00 and the night continues with DJ’s, on the sports centre court, at 23:00, and a late party. On Sunday, The IX Festival of the Olive, from 10.00, with food and craft fairs, children’s entertainment, music and popular food.


7-10 December, Las Palmas 

Un puente de música y gastronomía

In the “Mercado del Puerto” ( port market ) you can enjoy gastronomy and live music performances. From Wednesday to Saturday, sales and tasting stands are open from 12:00 to 24:00.

On Thursday, at 20:30 the Habaneros perform,  Cuban music of yesterday and today.

On Saturday, at 20:00 ( Calle Tenerife ) Xavi de la Torre, a great artist at the national level, a flamenco guitar teacher and singer who is accompanied by a flamenco dancer.


8-9 December, Las Palmas 

Christmas Program Town hall 

As Part of the Capital’s Christmas program, there is XII Gospel Choir Festival on Friday in Parque Doramas, ( starts at 21:00 ) and with free entry until full capacity.

Latonius and Rainbow Gospel choirs and for the first time, the Municipal Symphonic Band of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

On Saturday, there is a concert in Parque Doramas starting at 21:00, with free entry until full capacity.

8-10 December, Agaete

FIESTAS DE LA CONCEPCIÓN Y NAVIDAD 2017

Agaete is celebrating Festivities of Immaculate Conception ( according to the teaching of the Catholic Church, this is the conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary free from original sin by virtue of the foreseen merits of her son Jesus )

On Friday, at 12:00 Solemn Eucharist  in Parroquia de Ntra. Sra. de La Concepción, followed by the  Procession through the streets of the Villa.

On Saturday in Ermita de San Pedro at 18:30 Carols with music groups.

At 21:00 in Plaza de la Constitución Folk dance groups

On Sunday in Plaza de la Constitución, starting at 10:00 a Children’s show “Cancionero Isleño”, puppetry-theatre. Workshops in environmental education from the Waste Services dept of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria in which children and families learn about the problem of waste and the importance of its prevention and correct management.


Saturday 9 December, Villa de Moya

Saturday 9 December, playa de Las Marañuelas,  Mogán 

Gloria Mogán Open Water

Mogán will this Saturday host its first edition of the “Gloria Mogán Open Water” event, within the Open Water Series circuit.

The contest, with its finish line in Playa de Las Marañuelas, (Arguineguín), already has more than 400 registered participants.

Saturday morning will start with the distance of 10,100 meters at 9:15 in Playa de Mogán, and continue with the departures from 11:00 for the 4,600 meters from the Puerto Rico beach and finish with the departures at 12:00 for the distance of 2,100 meters from the Anfi beach.

The deadline to cover the swim will be until 14:00 for the distances of 10,100 meters and 4,600 meters, while the distance of 2,100 meters will close at 13:30. Live music to close a festive sports day at the Las Marañuelas beach , in Arguineguín.

Mogán is one of the few European tourist destinations that, in full winter season, has a swim crossing in open waters, with unbeatable weather conditions; an oscillating water temperature between 17º and 22 ºC and an ambient temperature between 18º and 24ºC in the shade.
