Cloudy skies are expected to prevail today on the north of the islands, with clear skies elsewhere , according to today’s forecast from AEMET, the Spanish State Meteorological Agency.
Temperatures are expected to change little with maximums in the shade remaining up to around 27º across the archipelago with loose winds blowing north-easterly predicted.
At sea to the north winds of force 2-3 are expected from the south on the western and northern islands with force 3 to 4 in the east, veering toward the northeast; variable force 2 to the south of Gran Canaria, La Palma and La Gomera and southwest of Tenerife and El Hierro, with northerly swell of around 1 meter.
Over the coming days, the north of the islands can expect cloudy skies with a tendency toward partly cloudy; for the rest, partly cloudy or clear with some high cloud.
AEMET are currently reporting a possibility of some weak and dispersed showers to the north and northwestern slopes of the Western-most islands. Temperatures with little change in general.
Predominantly westerly, variable loose winds and coastal breezes are expected from the south.
Stronger winds are expected at the weekend throughout The Canary Islands with AEMET currently predicting an 85% chance of rain by Sunday on Gran Canaria.
Meanwhile on the other side of the Atlantic Hurricane Gonzalo rages northward, expected to turn east towards northern Europe by the weekend, possibly approaching the UK by early next week, however by then expected to be much reduced in ferocity, though adverse weather conditions are still expected to reach western European shores.
TODAY on GRAN CANARIA: The northern slopes of the island, tending toward cloudy intervals following a partly cloudy morning; for the rest generally intermittent light high cloud tending to clear skies.
