The home side sitting in 7th position take on 3rd from bottom Espanyol for the Friday night match. After coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away at Osasuna last week, Las Palmas will be looking for a win to keep up with the top six clubs.

A quick start from the home side see’s a great run by Castellano who gets brought down on the edge of the box. Viera’s free kick goes just wide.

On 11 mins, a great passing move by LP sets up Prince Boateng but his shot is straight at the keeper, missing a very good early chance

Then it’s Livaja’s turn to try his luck from distance but well saved by Lopez in the away goal.

From the resulting corner, LP play along the floor to Prince Boateng who very cleverly back heels across the goal mouth, but no one was on his wave length to tap in another easy chance.

First chance for Espanyol comes on 22mins, a long ball from defence sets up their centre forward, Baptistao, who looks offside, but he is clean through on goal, Varas comes out and narrows the angle then David Garcia manages to get in a last ditch tackle to deny what was an otherwise certain goal.

More good play by the home side see Livaja and Prince Boateng get close but they still can’t make their pressure count.

Half Time : Las Palmas 0 Espanyol 0.

Half Time Verdict of The Saint  – The home side are playing well with some excellent build up play but their final ball and lack of players in the box is too often letting them down. Espanyol have created only a few chances mainly from the home defence lack of concentration. With 69% possession, LP need to make more of their 1/2 chances in the 2nd half.

LP start again in a positive way and Prince Boateng see’s his header saved after good work by Tana. Then on 58mins , the best chance of the night falls once again to Prince Boateng, but again his weak shot is easily saved.

A couple long range shots from outside of the box by Jonathan Viera go just wide.

On 76mins, a now tired looking Prince Boateng is replaced by Araujo who is greeted by boos from the home fans. Araujo was involved in another incident with the local police over his drinking.

In the last 10mins LP try their best to break down a stubborn defence presented by Espanyol but again can’t find that telling pass.

As we go into injury time, to make matters worse for the home fans, the heavens open and everyone gets a soaking before making their ways home after a disappointing home draw.

Final Score – Las Palmas 0 Espanyol 0.

Verdict of The Saint – A disappointing draw for LP who dominated the game but just couldn’t find the net.

Prince Boateng wasted the best chances of the match and on another day could of had a hat-trick.

The defence looks solid but they need a quick centre forward down the middle.

The club have tried to improve the attendance offering season ticket holders the chance to take a friend for 1/2 price but only attracted 20,575 fans on the night. Let’s hope the club can do more to lower the price of tickets and encourage more fans and tourists to support them.

Next home game – Cetla Vigo , Sunday 30th 20.45 KO, PIO PIO !!!!!!

The Saint, hard at it!

The Saint takes time out for a selfie with an adoring fan, Rick Bell, and local Arguineguin based sports pundit Javier Bolaños

We were sent this rare image of The Saint, hard at work, at the last home match in the Estadio Gran Canaria.  We just want to express our gratitude to this man who, as well as holding down a full time job, and helping to raise thousands of euros for local charities also volunteers to give up his own free time, buy his own season ticket, and supply us with the latest reports from every home game.  You, sir, are truly deserving of your title as, The Saint of UD Las Palmas.  Thank you.
