The National Police arrest two people on suspicion of fraud in Gran Canaria

The National Police based in Maspalomas, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Gran Canaria), have arrested two people who respond to initials ED, 47 years old, and VRG, 42 years old, as the alleged perpetrators of five counts of defrauding ‘night club’ customers in Playa del Ingles.

The officers began the investigation when, within a week, police received five separate reports of victims being invited into a particular venue, in a well known recreation area and shopping centre, and offered a range of drinks and sexual services with the sole intent of gaining access to their credit cards and access code details.

Later, after obtaining the victim´s card, code and other information, the suspects are alleged to have taken advantage of the victims´ negligence performing various transactions at the facility, all for large amounts, usually until the limit set by the card issuer was reached and even making ATM withdrawals near the premises.

The officers conducted a series of enquiries and found that the accused had cheated those five people to the tune of about €18,000.

So, after obtaining the necessary permissions, agents arrested the two thought to be responsible for it. They also confiscated documents relevant to the investigation.

The detainees, along with the police report, have been made available to the competent judicial authority.
