The Canary Weekend Tips 21-23 July’17

Beautiful July weekend ahoy. The Fiestas del Carmen festivities move to Playa de Mogán, there´ll be Latin and Cuban music on offer over the weekend up in Teror. Free concerts in Las Palmas as part of the ongoing Heineken Jazz festival and an international folklore parade in the southeastern enclave of Carrizal, just north of Vecindario. There is also fun with water in the tiny coastal village o El Pajar, stretching with Lily, a summer wine and tapas night in the mountian village of Valsequillo and the trumpeters gala finale concert in Maspalomas. 

21-23 July, Playa de Mogán 

Fiestas del Carmen 2017

Mogán’s festivities in honour of the ‘Virgen del Carmen’, patron saint of sailors, continues in Playa de Mogán.

Friday 21 July : Fashion catwalk with many performances including The Face Circus at 21:30 at Plaza Dr. Pedro Betancor León

Saturday 22 July: the 6th edition of the popular swimming competition – “travesia a nado Taurito-Playa de Mogán” starting at 11:00. A maximum number of 300 participating, the 1.200 meter route starts from the beach at Taurito and finishes up in Playa de Mogán

Barranco Water fiesta starting at 15:30. At 22:00 some Spanish humour at plaza de la Gañanias and after a little street party starting at 23:30

Sunday 23 July : Artisans at 10:00 at Plaza Dr. Pedro Betancor León. In the evening a Children´s fashion catwalk with music and other performances at 21:00 in Plaza de las Gañanias

21-23 July, Teror 

Festival del Aqua

As part of the Water festival there are two music events happening in Teror over the weekend. For Latin music lovers, Friday is the day to visit and for Cuban rhythms, don´t miss Sunday afternoon.

On Friday, The XXIII Latino Festival Grand Concert, with NG2 (Puerto Rico),  La Golosina (Gran Canaria), Iván “Cacú” and orchestra (Tenerife), DJ Bembé and Dj Nau, additionally collaboration from various Gran Canaria Dance Academies. At Plaza de Sintes (in front of the auditorium), starting from 21:30, all for FREE

On Sunday, a Cuban fiesta with the performances from  Son Caché’ and ‘Mojito con morera’ at Plaza Teresa de Bolívar at 14:00 and during the morning, you can enjoy the lovely street market in Teror and the surrounding areas of the church the, Basílica Nuestra Señora del Pino

21-23 July, Gran Canaria 

Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & más Heineken

The 26th edition of the Jazz festival is happening on several Canary Islands at the same time. As well as performances and club nights on Gran Canaria there are also free public outdoor concerts. This weekend; Las Palmas and Plaza de Santa Ana

Friday 21 July, El Pajar

Fiesta del agua

Its water party time! Fiesta del agua is on in the charming coastal enclave of El Pajar, the little village at the furthest reaches west of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, along the coastal GC-500 old national road, next to the fishing-cum-tourist town of Arguineguín. Small village fun with inflatables from 17:00-20:00 on Avenida de la Playa de El Pajar


Friday 21 July, Carrizal, Ingenio

International Folklore Festival 2017

Part of the ongoing and extraordinary International folklore Festival, there is a parade happening in Carrizal on Friday starting at 20:30. All the groups participating in the Festival will be joining in the parade through Carrizal, which will depart from Avenida Carlos V and tour around the streets finishing at Centro Cívico de Carrizal. The festival has been declared of tourist interest in the Canary Islands since 2014.

A lovely summer night with wines and tapas in the pretty mountain village of Valsequillo. The pedestrian area starting at 20:00. Enjoy the lovely Friday night in Valsequillo, municipality also famous for their cheese and strawberries

Friday 21 July, Maspalomas 

Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival, Closing gala concert 

The International Trumpet Festival will have its closing gala concert on Friday in ExpoMeloneras starting at 21:00. The Canarian youth orchestra with soloist Stephen Burns and directed by Victor Pablo Pérez. FREE entrance until all the seats are filled.

Saturday 22 July, Playa del Inglés, San Bartolomé de Tirajana

We are TaiChi

Every Saturday during the Summer months of June, July, August and September 2017, Master Kim Kyoung Bo and the town hall of SBT offer free outdoor Tai chi and meditation classes in Playa del Inglés as part of their summer activities.

Her session happens every Sunday throughout the year, and over the next three months she invites anyone looking for better mobility, more supple joints or who simply wants to help their body to feel great, to come join us in a training session thats easy enough for complete beginners and thorough enough to make a real difference in any bodies’ life.
