The Canary Weekend Tips 18-20 August

There is an extra hot August weekend ahead so get ready to stay cool. Weather conditions and warnings might affect some events. Here are a few of the highlight events happening over the coming weekend.


17-20 August, Agaete

Bioagaete Cultural Solidario

The awesome and eco minded BioAgaete cultural festival offers music, sports, a wide range of activities, markets, concerts, exhibitions and abundant solidarity, the 7th edition of this community minded homegrown festival is held in Villa de Agaete throughout this weekend.

18-20 August, Faro de Maspalomas, San Bartolome de Tirajana

Feria de Artesania

Last chance to visit the 10th Artisan Fair, finishing this weekend.

The artisan fair, held in the vicinity of Maspalomas lighthouse is open every day until 20 August from 17:00-23:00.

With 62 FEDAC artists (from  the Foundation for Ethnography and the Development of Canarian Arts) presenting their art forms from ceramics and miniatures to jewellery and leather.

 


Saturday 20 August, Telde 

Fiestas de Melenara

As part of the various fiestas going on in the municipality of Telde, there is a solidarity market on Saturday starting at 08:00 at Avenida de la Playa in Melenara and a Romeria, the pilgrimage offering, starting at 18:00 from the Union Marina football field to Salinetas, followed by traditional taifa dancing at the church and plaza de Clavellinas

Saturday 19 August, Artenara

3ª Trial exhibición 4×4 de Artenara

As part of the local Cuevita festivities on Saturday, the third exibition trial for 4×4 vehicles up in the mountains and the western part of the Island, in the highest altitude Gran Canaria village, Artenara. Starting at 14:00 in Llano Alto


Saturday 19 August, Maspalomas 

14 Aniversario Holiday World

Holiday World in Maspalomas are celebrating their 14th anniversary on Saturday. From 21:00-01:00 a premiere of the show “Bajo del Mar” and many other surprises. Nice evening with the whole family and a chance to sing happy birthday at this southern institution!


Saturday 19 August, Vecindario 

El Mercado Agrícola y Ganadero de Vecindario

The Vecindario Farm and Livestock Market, which is held every two weeks in La Karpa, in front of the Municipal Offices, will meet once more with consumers on Saturday, and the opportunity to buy fresh produce from producers directly and also offering Residuo Zero, which confirms that the fruits and vegetables on offer are free of pesticide residues.  This initiative, which has operated in the municipality for eight years, aims to support the primary sector of the region and the island, in addition to promoting so-called ‘Kilometer Zero’, also known as ‘proximity’ or short chain, which are items produced and marketed locally, thus providing freshness and proximity to consumers, in addition to reducing ecological footprints. The Vecindario Agricultural Market, alternates with the Agricultural Farm of the Cabildo in Arucas, has about 30 direct sales outlets with vegetables, fruits, honey, flowers, olives, jams, oils, bread and pastries from 8.30 to approx. 14:00.


Sunday 20 August, Puerto Rio, Mogán

Puerto Rico Farmers and Craft market 

The bi-weekly Farmers’ market is in Puerto Rico’s urban park this weekend. A  chance to take a stroll around the market stalls and see what a varied range of products there are on offer.
From 08:30 – 14:30

 


Telde,  fiestas de Playa de Tufia 18-27 August – a chance to enjoy this unique little coastal enclave built into a hidden cliffside.
