The Canary Weekend Tips 17-19 March’17

Another busy weekend ahead with many Carnival events going on around the island and of course, not forgetting, Paddy’s Day celebrations on Friday.

There will be many St Patricks Day events, helping you Feel the Irish Spirit, the biggest of which is likely to be at the Red Eagle (CC Aguila Roja) commercial centre, known locally as the Irish Centre.

Many Carnival parades and various festivities going on in different corners of the island. Remember to check our Gran Canaria Carnival season 2017 guide. And the lovely municipality of Firgas is celebrating their wonderful Festival dedicated to Potato on this Saturday. Let’s just hope now that the weather stays good !

17-19 March, Mogán 

Carnival Costa Mogán, Arguineguín

On Friday, the Carnival Circus ‘Wig’ Party from 19:00 with DJ’s and circus themed fun in Plaza del Mercadillo
( dress code : a wig and then some ) and at midnight the verbena,  street party

On Saturday, THE PARADE starting at 19:00 from El Timonel, up at the back of Los Lomos Dos, in Arguineguín and at 21:30 the party continues on into the night at the marketplace

On Sunday, Children’s Carnival costume party starting at 17:00 at Plaza del Mercadillo and at 19:30 the funeral & wake of the Sardine (representing all the excess and transgression indulged over the week of carnival). At 20:15 the Sardine will be taken to the beach for funeral cremation and of course there will be fireworks


17-19 March, Agaete 

Carnival

Agaete starts their Carnival celebrations this Friday with Adult Costumes competition and a Gala at Plaza de la Constitución starting at 20:30. On Saturday a Daytime Carnival with a full list of performances at Plaza de la Constitución starting at 14:00. On Sunday its Children’s Carnival at Plaza de la Constitución starting at 12:00



17-19 March, Faro de Maspalomas 

7ª Feria de Artesanía Primavera Sur

The seventh edition of Faro de Maspalomas spring time Handicraft Fair between 17-26 March.

This lovely fair is located just next to the Maspalomas lighthouse and is open every day from 10:00 until 19:00. With 71 FEDAC licensed artists, craftsmen and women showcasing their beautiful work, including one of our favourite artists; Vesna Bender with her recycled miniature art.

Friday 17 March, CC Bellavista, San Fernando

3rd Body painting competision

This Friday the shopping centre Bellavista are holding their 3rd body-painting competition starting at 17:00.

Ten of the best bodypainting artists compete in a live contest.  A show of art, colour and music on near naked flesh!


Friday 17 March, Fataga 

Traditional Canarian Carnival in Fataga 

Fataga is celebrating their traditional carnival festivities on Friday at Plaza Josefina Alemán, just behind the church at 19:00, with music and dancing.

 


Saturday 18 March, Villa de Firgas 

Fiesta de la Papa

During the day, visitors will be able to enjoy a gastronomic exhibition, highlighting the culinary qualities of local produce, and of course special attention to the word “papas”, the canarian’s own dialect’s word for potatoes, known in the mainland as Patatas.

Companies, farmers and artisans will be showing the very best of local gastronomy as well as produce and articles from around the region. The fair will also have live music from Parranda de Teror and the famous local band Overbooking 

The ‘Fiesta de papa’ is an all day event, starting at 11:00, with the hub located on Avenida de la Constitucíon and Plaza de San Roque by the town hall and the church.


Saturday 18 March, Carrizal 

The Carrizal Carnival parade

The colourful, joyful Carrizal parade this Saturday starting at 18:30 (a 1 hour delay from original schedule, due to airport and with fireworks happening later ) from plaza de La Jurada, ending with the cremation of the Sardine and big fireworks in the coastal enclave of El Burrero. This is the parade to see if you want to experience a very local party that will last until early hours of the morning ( 05:00 )

(parade route : Barcelona, Huerta del Obispo, República Argentina, Ejido Carrizal, Avenida Carlos V, Josefina de La Torre and ending up in the urbanization of El Burrero with the burial burning and the fireworks )


Saturday 18 March, Teror 

Carnival en Familia  ( Theme : circus )

Its family Carnival day in the municipality of Teror.

Tapas & pinchos route 12:00-24:00 Circus fun for the children with a camp set up at Plaza de Sintes. A high heel race at 19:45 from Calle El Riego to Plaza de Sintes and later in the evening at 20:30 the funeral of the Sardine along with fireworks, followed by a concert and after party among many other events planned for the day.


Sunday 19 March, Vecindario

Carnival event ( theme : Pirates )

On Sunday a lively street procession and a Family Carnival Day. Street procession starts at 11:30 from El Doctoral and travels to the pedestrian area of the Avenida de Canarias with music, dance and carnival groups . Children’s party in the pedestrian zone of the Avenida de Canarias starting at 11:00 and live concerts at Plaza de Los Algodoneros at 13:00

The main Mogollón parade in Santa Lucia de Tirajana is next weekend on 25 March. This means that the Avenida de Canarias will be closed 


Sunday 18 March, Carpa Municipal, Santa Lucia de Tirajana

Mercado Agrícola y Ganadero

Every second Sunday, the farmers market comes to ‘La Karpa‘ in the Municipality of Santa Lucia de Tirajana.

A perfect opportunity to purchase fresh produce directly from the primary sector at an adjusted price. Vegetables, fruit, honey, cheese, oil, bread and sweets are just some of the produce available at this market, constituted to support the primary sector of the region. From 09:00-14:00
