Strong winds warning on Gran Canaria

1The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) are maintaining a yellow advisory for strong windsfrom the southeast, until at least Sunday, on the island of Gran Canaria.

Winds gusting up to between 75 and 80 km/hour, have been felt across the archipelago, with north eastern and south western slopes seeing much of it, as well as up on the summits.

2The west coast in the lee of the island, is expected to to also experience some strong winds as of midnight tonight with maximum winds gusting across the islands at up to 70 kilometres per hour, especially inland and highland areas of the southwest and northeast slopes.

Citizens are advised to remove loose items from balconies, terraces and window sills, and to use their common sense in the face of adverse weather conditions.

Always check the flags at beaches and heed any lifeguard warnings to help ensure safety at all times.
