Municipal services of San Bartolomé de Tirajana this month started the work of cleaning, trash removal and disinfecting of all the degraded premises affected by the concession of the management of the seemingly abandoned commercial area known as Parque Europea, in the tourist town of Playa del Inglés. The boarded up shops and locales have long been an eyesore and a source of complaint right next to the CC Águila Roja, known locally as The Irish Shopping Centre.
The work started after the creation of a commission between the Town Hall and the concession holder for a new initiative in that space. After having been cleaned, the premises is to be ‘enclosed’ to avoid future ‘occupations’, until the rehabilitation project is presented for this area, in order to change, what has been described as, ‘the deplorable image that the space has given the hub of Playa del Inglés’ – in reference to the number of homeless people who have used the empty space for shelter. No word currently on what will happen to those people who are now left without shelter.
