Newsbrief: Nelson Mandela pier repair will cost €600,000 and last three months

The repair work to the Nelson Mandela pier in Las Palmas, which was hit by a Naviera Armas ferry on April 21, will cost €600,000 and last three months, according to the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Luis Ibarra.

They first need to dismantle the entire damaged section of the dock to look to see how other parts of the dock have been affected.

The accident occurred when the “Volcán de Tamasite” left port and, according to Naviera Armas, suffered a voltage drop that caused the ship to drift until it collided head-on against the wall, an impact that produced a fuel spill into the sea.
