Since its inauguration in 2000, this festival has set out to find its own niche. The 17th edition of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International film Festival starts today, 31 March, and runs to 9 April. The hub scenes are Teatro Pérez Galdós, Multicines Monopol and Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnología in parque Santa Catalina. Sixteen short films from twenty countries make up the competitive section of the festival’s 17th edition.
The public will be able to enjoy a wide program, including films like the Jury Grand Prix winner of the last Berlinale, Félicité, by Alain Gomis, The Silver Bear-award for Best Direction, The Other Side of Hope, by Aki Kaurismäki (Finland, 2017), a Cannes award-winning film, Harmonium, by Koji Fukada, France, 2016, an Oscar nominee I Am Not Your Black by Raoul Peck (USA, 2016), and Venice Golden Lion winner, The Woman Who Left , by Lav Diaz (Philippines, 2016) as well as many others.
On offer during the festival are documentaries, movies, short films, animated movies, a marathon freakshow night, the fourth edition of the Monopol Music Festival (MMF), 2 free outdoor concerts at Plaza de Santa Ana and even a tapas route
