12-million-passenger-to-gran-canariaGran Canaria airport has made history by serving, for the first time ever, more than 12 million passenger journeys in just one year, easily surpassing the 10.6 million journeys counted in 2015.

Eva Tendero Corredor, from Albacete, was the 12 millionth passenger and was greeted by the director of the Airport, Alberto Martín, and Juan Carlos Hernández, a representative of Air Europa, the company with which she was flying to Madrid over the holiday period.

In the first eleven months of the year, Gran Canaria Airport registered 10.9 million passengers, which was 14 % more than during the same period last year. This figure increased in December to reach more than 12 million, so the total increase recorded in 2016 was  set at 12%.

Gran Canaria Airport opened its doors to national and international traffic in the 1940s and in its 83 year history has received more than 300 million passengers.
