Canary Islands airports serviced 3,842,552 passenger journeys during July, representing an increase of 9.4% over the same period of 2016, according to data released by Spanish airport authority AENA. Of the total number of commercial passenger journeys (3,810,354), 2,373,577 were international travelers, reflecting a 7.3% rise and 1,436,777 flew from or to other Spanish territories, 13.7% more than the same month of last year.
The airports of the archipelago with the highest passenger traffic were Gran Canaria with 1,087,405 (+ 10.3%) and Tenerife Sur with 931,935 (+ 6.1%) respectively, ranking seventh and eighth place in the whole network of AENA airports. Followed by Lanzarote Airport with 691,537 (+ 9.7%); Fuerteventura with 558,014 (+ 7.9%); Tenerife Norte, 437,192 (+ 14.1%); La Palma, with 110,661 and (+13.4%); El Hierro, 20,228 with the largest percentage growth, 44.8% more, and La Gomera, servicing 5,580 passenger journeys and growth of 32.6%.
So far this year, to the end of July, the number of passenger journeys registered through the airports of The Canary Islands stands at 24,810,021, 8.2% more than in the same period of 2016.
