Gran Canaria airport will have two new links with the UK starting from April. The British leisure airline and package holiday specialist Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are celebrating a major milestone on 30th of March, which marked the first ever flights and holidays from their two brand new UK bases (London Stansted Airport and Birmingham Airport), both of which took off on the same day.
Jet2 has also launched two new direct routes connecting Gran Canaria airport with Birmingham on 2 weekly flights and London-Stansted airport on three weekly flights, among the many other destinations they fly to.
Jet2 company joins Thomson Airways, Ryanair, Monarch and Thomas Cook already offering regular flights from these cities. Jet2 Holidays is a tourist group that has been operating to Gran Canaria since 2010 and offers a full service as a tour operator and an airline to their customers.
Jet2’s business volume has grown exponentially every year, with a 59% increase in 2016. These two new connections will allow them to increase from the 106,000 tourists who they brought to the island last year. Jet2, in fourth place, now represents 10% of the market share between the UK and Gran Canaria, surpassed only by long term major players like TUI, Ryanair and Thomas Cook, but they look set to take on all the big boys.
The company’s forecasts for the summer and winter of 2017-2018 indicate a 77% increase in the number of seats they will put up for sale, making them the third largest operator in the UK for Gran Canaria tourism.
