The serious collision between two cars, one of which overturned, closed the southern GC1 highway, in the direction of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, near the exit to San Fernando de Maspalomas, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana yesterday afternoon.
Despite the extent of the accident, only one woman, 43 years of age, suffered mild injuries, though large queues of vehicles were held up for almost an hour.
After the 112 Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (Cecoes-112) received initial reports they deployed an SUC ambulance, as well as Firemen, the Guardia Civil and personnel from the Carriageways and Road Maintenance department.
The SUC medical staff attended to the overturned car in the left outside lane of the road, and transferred the driver to the Clinica Roca hospital in nearby San Agustín.
Guardia Civil Traffico officers regulated the traffic, while the Firemen of San Bartolomé de Tirajana collaborated in clearing the scene and the removal of the vehicles, assisting members of the Cabildo’s Road Maintenance services.
