57 migrants rescued south of Gran Canaria
Maritime Rescue located a group of migrants adrift on Tuesday and brought them to Arguineguín port, at 09:10 on Wednesday morning. The 57 occupants of the patera (open boat) were found 165 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria.
All were of sub-Saharan origin, 16 were women, one is pregnant. Red Cross staff attended them at the port side.
The boat was reported as having left Cape Bojador on Tuesday morning. The Salvamento Maritimo Sasemar 103 aircraft initially located the vessel at around 17:30 on Tuesday and directed the ship Guardamar TALÍA, which arived at the location around midnight, according to official sources.
